Japanese Modern

Style Secret: Tatami Mats Made of woven rushes, tatami mats are the quintessential Japanese floor covering, and they symbolize Japanese style in a way that few other objects can. They're minimalist and sleek, helping to ground the space in serenity. Traditionally, tatami mats are arranged in very specific sizes and patterns according to the dimensions of the room, but there's no need to adhere to old rules — choose the mat that works best for your space. East meets West: Think beyond the floor. Hung on the wall in the same way that you might mount a rug or quilt, tatami mats punctuate a space with quiet tone and texture. You can also use them as table runners or coverings
